A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Product Support Specialist is accountable for technical product support/improvements in the form of service training, specialized troubleshooting, monitoring of product performance, quality, investigation of product deficiencies, initiating product improvements and dissemination of product information. Focus is on providing on-time and accurate products/services to internal and external customers. The Product Support Specialist is responsible for technical training and support of distribution/dealer service personnel for specific irrigation equipment manufactured and sold by Valley. Incumbent instructs and educates dealer personnel in areas of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and application, erection procedures and equipment operation material on irrigation equipment. These instructional sessions take place in both a classroom setting in addition to outdoor field environments. The Product Support Specialist participates in field exercise to become proficient in system application/design, operation, set-up, and adjustments. In addition, the Product Support Specialist manages and leads contract crews in the field. Incumbent will travel for onsite technical support to Valmont's worldwide dealers and distribution network.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead activities in technical training and support of distribution/dealer service personnel.
  • Contribute to the development of written and audio-visual technical educational material on assigned specific Valley irrigation equipment products and applications.
  • Support the instruction of dealer personnel in the areas of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and application, erection procedures and equipment operation material on irrigation equipment.
  • Instruction of staff, dealers, and end-users in field and classroom settings on circle pivots and other assigned specific Valley irrigation equipment products.
  • Be involved with systems where monitor and control devices are used.
  • Develop technical information and documentation for dissemination to dealers.
  • Respond to phone, e-mail and written inquiries related to assigned specific Valley irrigation equipment products.
  • Use sound judgment and decisions in order to gain customer/dealer satisfaction, at the same time protecting the company's interest.
  • Learn how to complete a quality installation of Valley products which includes specialized troubleshooting steps/logic for the dealer.
  • Continually updating and developing new skills in electronic and electrical application, mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Act as instructor in the Valmont sponsored annual Technical Service Training Seminars.
  • Lead and manage contract crews in the field.
  • Must be proficient with computers.
  • This role requires up to 40% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Help test any new items that are added to the product line of assigned specific Valley products.
  • Read all the service programs announced in the service bulletins.
  • Assist in the training of Territory Managers and dealers on the latest installation start-up and troubleshooting methods.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience OR Associate's Degree with 5+ years relevant experience OR 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Previous work experience with customer service or sales
  • A valid U.S. driver's license
  • The ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally up to 40% of the time
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
  • The ability to teach customers and dealers about Valmont Products
  • The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • The ability to lead contract crews in the field
  • Excellent communication, organization, analytical and interpersonal skills

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanized Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering or related field is preferred
  • Previous industrial service or maintenance experience in an electrical, mechanical or electronics area
  • Professional work experience teaching or educating others on irrigation concepts
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

The majority of this work is completed in an office environment, but there are frequent trips to grower's fields and dealerships so a considerable amount of the week can be spent traveling to and from different venues. While doing field work, the employee will be exposed to dust, dirt, heat, cold, water, wind, oil, and high voltage. The conditions vary according to the assignment. While visiting any areas within the manufacturing facility the employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to metatarsal footwear and side-shield safety glasses. The work environment can be demanding at times with harsh weather conditions and overtime needed during certain seasons of the year. Domestic travel represents up to 30% of the yearly work schedule.

The Product Support Specialist needs to have a range of motion that allows them the ability to service the equipment once it has been erected in the field. That means the ability to stand for extended periods, squat, reach, bend and at times work in awkward positions. The employee needs to be able to frequently lift up to 30 lbs. while working in the field. The specialist needs to be able to access areas that can only be reached by climbing stairs. There are rare occasions when the specialist will need to actually climb a ladder. This position requires not only a moderate level a physical strength, but also stamina due to the travel requirements and the odd hours that are kept. There are judgment calls that need to be made that may bring on stress and the job is more demanding during the growing season when the hours can be long. While working in the outdoors, the specialist may need to endure extreme weather conditions. With technical instruction and guidance being such a large part of the responsibilities of this position, it is pertinent that the employee does not have any major visual, hearing or speaking impediments that cannot be easily corrected. The employ needs to be able to speak over the phone, at meetings and in front of dealership personnel.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
